Step-by-step guide to copying hard disk content with CloneZilla software
Buying a new computer or replacing an old hard drive and migrating to a new hard drive has its own set of problems, including software and even operating system transfers.
What is CloneZilla?
CloneZilla is an open source program used to image hard disks and hard drives as well as disk partitions. You can use CloneZilla to support the system, clone a full drive, and more. It supports multiple file systems, bootloaders, encryption, and more. Note that when you want to clone a drive that has Windows 10 installed, the second drive should have the same or more capacity as your current drive. For example, if you intend to clone a 60 GB drive, the receiving drive must have at least 60 GB of free space for the clone to perform properly. Follow these steps to clone the hard drive:
1. Download CloneZilla
The first step is to install CloneZilla software on your computer. For this purpose, visit the Clonezilla download page and download the relevant ISO file. Make sure you download the ISO file that fits your system architecture. (32 or 64 bit)
After downloading the software, install it on your computer.
Step 2: Create a bootable USB drive using Rufus software
To build a CloneZilla bootable flash memory, you need at least 1 GB of flash memory or more. There are several tools for making bootable flash memory that Rufus is one of the simplest to provide good functionality. Note that when you create a bootable flash memory, all current information on the flash memory will be erased.
To build a bootable flash memory, first go to the Rufus page , download it, and install it. After installation, open Rufus and connect the flash memory to your system.
Select the flash memory from the Device section.
In the Boot selection section, select the SELECT button. Navigate to the location of the CloneZilla ISO file and press the Open button. Rufus automatically selects the right options for creating bootable flash memory. Change the Volume Label to a name that is easier to remember.
When the job is done, click the START button.
Rufus will detect the ISOHybrid ISO file and burn the ISO file.
Clonezilla is a small ISO, so it won’t take long for flash memory to build.
At this point you need to plug the second hard drive into your system and make sure it is properly identified and working by the system.
Step 3: Launch and boot via flash memory
You should now restart Windows and enter the system boot menu. In order for the system to boot via flash memory, you have to do one of the following two ways: go to System BIOS settings (in GIGABYTE motherboards at boot time with the F12 key press the BIOS menu) and boot to Flash Select the first option title, save the settings, and boot up the system to boot from the flash memory or select the display option for the boot drive menu, which is easier. In Windows, hold the Shift key and then select Restart from the Start menu. This combination allows you to see the Advanced Startup menu when you launch the system. Go to Troubleshoot> Advanced Options> UEFI Firmware Settings on the page above. Then change how to boot from the main hard drive to the flash memory.
Step 4: Configure Clonezilla
After the system boot from Clonezilla, a few options appear. Select Clonezilla Live (Default Settings, VGA 800 × 600. Wait a while for the Clonezilla menu to appear. Now you need to select the language and keyboard layout. When you get to the Start CloneZilla page, select Start CloneZilla There are only two options below:
Device-image: Creates a copy or the same image from a device such as a hard disk.
Device-device: Used to directly copy one disk or solid state memory to another drive.
The first option allows you to create a disk image of the device you are working on. The second option helps you to make a clone of the device and place the contents directly on the second device.
Since we are trying to clone the drive, then select the second Device-device option and then select Beginner Mode. Another option allows you to access more advanced options that are not the subject of this article. Next you need to choose how to clone the two options below.
Disk to local disk: The above option is used to clone the current disk to a local disk (second hard disk).
Part to local part: This nettle is used to clone a partition to a disk drive on another drive.
Select the first option to clone a hard drive and all the partitions on it.
Step 5: Clone the current drive to the local drive
You must now select the drive to be cloned. Clonezilla is based on Linux and therefore displays the name of the partitions as Linux. More precisely, the primary partition, which is your primary partition, uses the word sda. The second partition uses the sdb expression and continues with this naming. By looking at the volume of partitions you can find the partition you want. On the next page you should select the second drive. Note that the full drive capacity of the second drive must be greater than the first drive to fully clone the disk. Next you need to determine what Clonezilla is going to do. The following three options are available to you:
Choose: Clonezilla remains open after the process is complete.
Reboot: Once the process is complete, boot the system.
Poweroff: Turn off the system completely after the process is complete.
If you have used Clonezilla to copy a hard disk drive that has Windows installed, be sure to make the boot process copy at the last step. Press the Y key to launch Windows.
From now on you can safely use Clonezilla to clone Windows 10 and no longer have to spend hours installing Windows and related software.
