To do this, the first thing you do is copy the contents of the previous cells and paste them into the current cells.

Copying is fine, but only if the column is not too long. But sometimes the column has a lot of data and has many rows, so to copy the contents of the cells you have to constantly go to the top and bottom and left and right of the page and go back to the current cell to paste it. Not only is this time consuming but it can also cause problems after doing it several times.

There is a better way to do this. Whenever you want to paste previously entered data into a new column, simply press Alt + Down to get a list of all the data in the column. You can use the arrow keys to select items and press Enter .

If you want to use the mouse, right-click on the current cell and select ” Pick from Dropdown List ” and select an item to enter the current cell.

How to Override Comment Deadline in WordPress https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-override-comment-deadline-in-wordpress-2/ https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-override-comment-deadline-in-wordpress-2/#respond Wed, 20 Dec 2017 21:18:44 +0000 https://www.shopingserver.net/?p=17253 One solution often suggested to reduce comment spam is to disable comments on older posts. There is an option on the Discussion settings page where you can turn off comments on posts older than a certain number of days.

The problem with this solution is that it blocks comments on posts where you would really like your users to continue discussion.

In this article, we will show you how to override comment deadline in WordPress and keep comments open on certain posts.

How to Disable Comments on Older Posts in WordPress

If you are getting a lot of spam on older posts on your WordPress blog, then WordPress offers a simple solution to turn off comments on older articles. All you need to do is go to Settings » Discussion, and check the box next to option ‘Automatically close comments on articles older than days’. You can enter the number of days here and then save changes.

Overriding Comment Deadline Restriction for Individual Posts

After disabling comments on older posts, there may be posts where you would like to keep the comments open. Here is how you can override the comment deadline restriction and enable comments on certain posts while keeping them off for other posts.

First thing you need to do is install and activate the Override Comment Deadline plugin. The plugin works out of the box and there are no settings for you to configure.

Simply edit a post where you want to keep the comments open. Scroll down and you will see Override Comment Deadline metabox. Check the box next to ‘Keep comments open’ option and update the post.

That’s all, you can visit the post, and you will see comments enabled there. Repeat the process for all posts where you would like to keep comments open even after the comment deadline.

We hope this article helped you override comment deadline for individual posts in WordPress. You may also want to checkout our beginner’s guide on how to moderate comments in WordPress.

You can always create a new version of an old WordPress post however if the old post has comments, then there is no way for you to move them. In this article, we will show you how to easily move comments between WordPress posts and even custom post types.

How to Notify Post Authors of New Disqus Comments in WordPress https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-notify-post-authors-of-new-disqus-comments-in-wordpress-2/ https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-notify-post-authors-of-new-disqus-comments-in-wordpress-2/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2017 00:37:15 +0000 https://www.shopingserver.net/?p=17239 At WPBeginner we use Disqus commenting system. Recently one of our users asked us how they can notify post author of new Disqus comments in WordPress. By default, only the users added into Disqus commenting system as admins or moderators can receive notifications for new comments. However if you run a multi-author WordPress site, then all your authors may not have admin access to your Disqus account. In this article, we will show you how to notify post authors of new Disqus comments in WordPress.

Before you begin, make sure you have Disqus commenting system installed on your WordPress site. Also make sure that you have not disabled automatic comment importing by visiting Comments » Disqus page on your site. See our guide on how to add Disqus commenting system in WordPress.

If you don’t like the video or need more instructions, then continue reading.

Now you need to install and activate the Disqus Notify Post/Page Author plugin. It works out of the box and there are not additional settings for you to configure.

That’s all, authors on your site will now receive notifications for new Disqus comments on the email address associated with their account.

Troubleshooting

If you just added a test comment and didn’t receive notification email, then don’t panic. It usually takes sometime for Disqus to sync comments with your WordPress database. The plugin will only send email notification when a comment is synced and imported into your WordPress database.

Make sure that the email address associated with the author account is valid. Also don’t forget to check the spam folder. If you are using a fancy mailbox like Google’s Inbox, then the comment notification emails will probably land into Updates section.

Lastly, make sure your WordPress site is capable of sending emails. See our guide on how to fix WordPress not sending email issue.

We hope this article helped you notify post author of new Disqus comments in WordPress.

How to Add YouTube Video as Fullscreen Background in WordPress https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-add-youtube-video-as-fullscreen-background-in-wordpress-2/ https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-add-youtube-video-as-fullscreen-background-in-wordpress-2/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2017 00:33:05 +0000 https://www.shopingserver.net/?p=17233 Many top brands are using background videos to make their landing pages more interesting. If used carefully, a moving background can instantly grab attention of your visitors. In this article, we will show you how to add YouTube video as fullscreen background in WordPress.

Video Tutorial

Subscribe to WPBeginner

If you don’t like the video or need more instructions, then continue reading.

First thing you need to do is install and activate the mb.YTPlayer for background videos plugin. Upon activation, head over to Settings » mb.YTPlayer to configure the settings.

Start by entering the URL of YouTube video you want to add as the background. The default options should work for most websites, but you can fine tune them to meet your needs.

You can add video controls, aspect ratio, video quality, start and end time, etc. You can also mute a video, show or hide controls, and loop a video.

Next, review the options and configure them as needed. Once you are satisfied, simply click on the save changes button to store your settings.

You can now preview your site to see the background video in action.

If you can’t see the video then your WordPress theme most likely has set a container with a background color or image.

In order to fix this, you will need to remove the background color from that container. You can do that by editing your theme’s stylesheet. Most commonly used identifiers for wrapper containers are page, site, content, etc.

Setting up YouTube Video Background for Single Post or Page

If you want to, you can set YouTube video background for a single post or page on your WordPress site. All you need to do is edit a post or page and click on the YTPlayer button on the post editor.

When you click on the button, it will bring up YTPlayer shortcode generator. It will show you most of the options on settings page. You need to enter the YouTube video URL and then go through the options. Once you are satisfied, click on the insert shortcode button.

The plugin will add the required shortcode into your post / page.

How to Add Image Icons With Navigation Menus in WordPress https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-add-image-icons-with-navigation-menus-in-wordpress-2/ https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-add-image-icons-with-navigation-menus-in-wordpress-2/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2017 00:31:37 +0000 https://www.shopingserver.net/?p=17231 Do you want to add icons in your WordPress navigation menu? Recently, one of our users asked for an easy way to add images as icons in navigation menus. In this article, we will show you how to add image icons in your WordPress navigation menus without editing any code.

Video Tutorial

Subscribe to WPBeginner

If you don’t like the video or need more instructions, then continue reading.

First thing you need to do is install and activate the Menu Image plugin. Upon activation, go to Appearance » Menus. There you will see an option to add images with each item in your existing menu.

Next, upload the image you want to display next to the navigation menu by clicking on the ‘Set Image’ button.

The plugin automatically creates three new image sizes of 24 x 24, 36 x 36, and 48 x 48 pixels. You can choose them from image size drop down menu. You can also choose where you want menu title to appear. You can display it before or after the image. You can also hide the title and display only the image.

Adding Your Own Image Size

If you want to add your own custom image size for the images you upload to the menu, then you can do that by adding this code in your theme’s functions.php file or site-specific plugin.

// add a new size

// return $sizes (required)

return $sizes;

});

Adding Images To Navigation Menus Manually with CSS

This method is for more experienced users who know their way around CSS. First you need to upload your images to WordPress by visiting Media » Add New. After uploading each image, copy their URLs and paste them in a text editor like Notepad.

Now head over to Appearance » Menus and click on the Screen Options button at the top right corner of the screen. On the screen options menu, check the box next to CSS classes.

Next scrolldown to click on any item in your current menu, and you will notice a CSS class field. All you need to do is add a CSS class to your menu item.

After that you need to add this CSS in your theme or child theme’s stylesheet.

}

Don’t forget to change .homepage to whatever CSS class you entered, and change the URL of the background image from the one you saved earlier in a text file.

Depending on your theme, you may need to tweak the CSS a little bit. Once you are satisfied with the result, repeat the process for all menu items.

How to Bulk Edit Featured Images in WordPress https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-bulk-edit-featured-images-in-wordpress-2/ https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-bulk-edit-featured-images-in-wordpress-2/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2017 00:30:06 +0000 https://www.shopingserver.net/?p=17229 Recently, one of our users asked us for a better way to bulk edit hundreds of featured images on their site. Featured images, commonly known as post thumbnails, are an essential part of many WordPress themes. Adding or removing featured images for a single post can be easily done by editing a post however changing or editing them for multiple posts can be a bit cumbersome. In this article, we will show you how to easily bulk edit featured images in WordPress.

First thing you need to do is install and activate the Quick Featured Images plugin. Upon activation, the plugin adds a new menu item labeled ‘Featured Images’ in your WordPress admin bar. Clicking on it will take you to plugin’s configuration screen.

Quick Featured Images allow you to quickly set, remove, or replace featured images. You can also set default featured images and display featured image column on the posts screen. We will walk you through each of these functions.

Bulk Set, Replace, Remove Featured Images

If you want to quickly set, replace, or remove featured images, then you need to visit Featured Images » Set, replace, remove.

The first option on the page allows you to perform certain actions using a single image. You can set a single image as featured image for all published posts which will also replace existing featured images. The second setting allows you to replace existing featured images with the selected image. The third setting looks for the image on your website and removes it as featured image.

You can also use multiple images and set them randomly as featured images on all your existing posts. Simply upload the images you want to use under ‘Actions with multiple images’.

The last section on the page is labeled ‘Action with no images’. Under this section, you can use the first image in a post as featured image or remove featured images from all posts on your website.

Preset Featured Images Based on Taxonomy

You can easily set a default featured image for each post, or a default featured image based on category. Quick Featured Images provides you a graphical interface to set a default featured image. You can also choose preset featured images for each taxonomy term on your site.

Start by going to Featured Images » Preset Featured Images to set the rules for default featured images.

The first rule on the page will override any featured image set on a post when the post is saved or published. If you want to set the featured image, then the plugin will use the rules you describe on this page.

You can activate this setting if you run a multi-author WordPress blog and don’t want your authors to set featured images. You can also use this rule if you want to use featured images based on the post’s taxonomy.

The second rule on the page allows the plugin to use the first image inside a post to be used as a featured image. If no image is found, then the plugin will use the rules you describe on this page.

The last option allows you to set your own custom rules. You can add multiple rules by clicking on the Add Rule button. This allows you to set featured images based on categories, tags, or any custom taxonomy you may be using on your site. Simply choose an image, and then choose a taxonomy term.

Don’t forget to save your changes once you are finished setting up featured images.

Adding a Featured Image Column on Posts Screen

When you see the list of posts on your WordPress admin area, you wouldn’t see a featured image next to post titles. If you want to see whether a post has featured image or not, then you will have to edit the post. Quick Featured Images allows you to add a featured image column on the posts, pages, or any custom post types screen.

Simply click on Featured Images » Image Columns and choose the post type where you want to enable this feature. This is how featured image column will appear on your posts screen:

That’s all for now. We hope this article helped you learn how to bulk edit featured images in WordPress. You may also want to check out our guide on how to fix common image issues in WordPress.

How to Save and Preview WordPress Posts Using Ctrl+S https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-save-and-preview-wordpress-posts-using-ctrls-2/ https://wiki.shopingserver.com/how-to-save-and-preview-wordpress-posts-using-ctrls-2/#respond Thu, 21 Dec 2017 00:28:24 +0000 https://www.shopingserver.net/?p=17227 Ctrl + S is a universal keyboard shortcut for saving your work across applications. When a beginner starts using WordPress, it’s a really weird experience to find that the most commonly used keyboard shortcut is not available. In this article, we will show you how to save and preview WordPress posts using Ctrl + S or Cmd + S for Mac users.

Before we start, you’re probably wondering if WordPress doesn’t use the universal shortcut, then how does it save? Well WordPress has a very smart auto-save functionality that automatically saves your post revisions in your browser and in the database.

However, malfunctions to the auto-save or another accident can definitely cause loss of work. The best way to avoid this is to manually save the post. WordPress does have a save button that you can manually press, but that’s just inefficient.

So let’s take a look at how to use Ctrl + S or Cmd + S keyboard shortcuts in WordPress to save your posts.

Video Tutorial

Subscribe to WPBeginner

If you don’t like the video or need more instructions, then continue reading.

First thing you need to do is install and activate the Quick Preview plugin. Upon activation, you need to visit the Settings » Quick Preview page to configure the plugin.

You can choose whether you would like the preview to open in the same window or a new window. Opening the preview in the same window will take you away from the edit screen.

We recommend that you choose to open previews in a new window. It will be easier to resume editing by switching tabs. After selecting the New window option, simply save your changes.

Now we’re ready to see the plugin in action. All you need to do is create a new post or edit an existing post.

Once you are on the post editor screen, press Ctrl + S keys on your keyboard (Cmd + S for Mac). WordPress will instantly save your post and open the preview in a new window.

Note, that using Ctrl + S will only save your post. If you are working on a draft, using Ctrl + S will not publish your post.

On the other hand, if you are working on an already published post, using Ctrl + S will update the post.

That’s all. Now you can use Ctrl + S keyboard shortcut in WordPress to save and preview your posts instantly. You may also want to check out our list of most useful time saving WordPress shortcuts.
