First thing you need to do is install and activate the WP-EMail plugin. Upon activation, you need to visit E-Mail » E-Mail options page to configure the plugin.

You can leave the SMTP settings blank if you are not using an SMTP server or third-party email service like Mandrill.

Next, you need to choose the email text and icon. Under the email settings, you can select email content type and fields that users will see on the email form.

In the email sending method, you can use PHP or Sendmail. If you are using an SMTP server, then you need to select SMTP as your email sending method.

WP-EMail allows you to set a character limit to be used as excerpt in the email. We recommend you to use 100 to 250 characters. This will give the email recipient an idea of the content, and they will have to visit your website to view the full article.

The next part of the settings page allows you to configure the outgoing email template. The default template should work for most websites. However, you can change it using the available template tags.

Don’t forget to click on the save changes buttons, to store your settings.

Important: One last but crucial step is to update your Permalink settings.

Simply visit Settings » Permalinks page and click on the save changes button. You don’t need to change anything. By just saving the permalink structure will referesh your .htaccess file.

Displaying Email This Button in WordPress

After configuring the plugin, the next step is to add the ‘Email this’ button on your WordPress posts and pages.

Method 1: Using The Shortcode

If you just want to add the email button to selected few posts or pages, then you can use this shortcode into your post’s content.

If you want to add email this link to all your pages, then you can use the same shortcode in a text widget as well.

However, WordPress by default does not allow shortcodes to be used inside text widgets. To enable shortcodes in text widgets, you need to add this code in your theme’s functions.php file or a site-specific plugin.

The downside of using the shortcode is that you will have to add this to your posts manually, or if you are using it in a widget, then the email option will be separate from the actual content.

Method 2: Editing Theme Files

You may see the white screen or run into timeouts while performing a search and replace. Simply click on the settings tab under the plugin page.

You will notice the max page size option. Try decreasing the page size to avoid timeouts and white screen.

Adding a FAQ Manager in WordPress

First thing you need to do is install and activate the Quick and Easy FAQs plugin. Upon installation, the plugin will add a new FAQs section in your WordPress admin menu.

You will need to visit FAQs » Add New to add your first frequently asked question. The FAQ editor looks very much like post editor.

Add the question in the title field and answer in the post edit area. On your right hand column, you will notice the FAQ Groups box. These groups are like categories in WordPress posts. You can use groups to sort questions into topics or sections.

Once you are done, click on the publish button, and repeat the process for all other frequently asked questions you want to add.

After you have a few FAQs, it is time to display them on your website.

Displaying FAQs on Your WordPress Site

Change Display Order for FAQs

By default, the plugin shows the most recent question on top. Here is how you can change the FAQ display order and rearrange questions in anyway you want.

First thing you need to do is install and activate Post Types Order plugin. Upon activation, go to Settings » Post Types Order page.

First you need to select show next to FAQ and then select administrator next to the option ‘Minimum Level to use this plugin’.

Click on the save changes button to store your settings.

Now you need to visit FAQs » Re-Order page. Simply drag and drop FAQ titles to rearrange them in the order you want to display them.

Don’t forget to click on the update button to store your settings. That’s all, you can now visit your FAQs page to see your FAQs in the new order.

Why and When to Use Relative Dates in WordPress?

As you may have noticed that a lot of social networking websites use relative time to describe how long ago an entry was posted.

For example, two hours ago, yesterday, just now, etc.

Relative dates give users a sense of how much time has passed since something was posted. This is why a lot of WordPress blogs and news sites are adding time ago style relative dates.

Having said that, let’s take a look at how to add relative dates to your WordPress site.

Adding Relative Dates in WordPress Using a Plugin

Upon activation, you need to visit Settings » General page and scroll down to ‘Meks Time Ago Options’ section.

You can select where and when you want to use relative time. You can choose to show it for date, time. or both. You can also limit it to posts not older than a specific time.

Adding Relative Dates in WordPress Manually

Upon activation, the plugin will try to replace the default WordPress dates in your theme with relative date and time.

However, since there are so many WordPress themes using different methods to display date and time, it may not be able to work with your theme.

Visit your website to see if it was able to successfully change date and time to relative dates.

If it does not work for your theme, then you may need to edit your WordPress theme files where you want to show relative date and time.

For example, if you want to show relative date on a single post page, then you will need to edit single.php or content-single.php files. For comments, you may need to edit comments.php file.

On the post edit screen, you will notice the new ‘Authors’ box just below the post editor.

By default, it will show the original author of the post. You can add additional authors by entering their name in the search box below.

The plugin will start showing users as you type. You need to select the user that you want to add as an author by clicking on it.

The selected author name will now appear below the original author name.

You can continue adding more authors as needed. Once you are done, you can save or publish your post.

Showing Multiple Authors On Your WordPress Site

Unfortunately, the plugin does not automatically display multiple authors on your site. For that you’ll need to edit your theme files. If you haven’t done this before, then please see our guide on how to copy paste code in WordPress.

You’ll need to edit theme files with the code responsible for showing the author name for posts. This could be single.php, content.php, or a template tag in your theme’s functions.php file. See our tutorial on how to find which theme files to edit in WordPress.
