How to enable dark mode for Chrome on Android

How to Dual-Boot a Chromebook Using ChrUbuntu

ChrUbuntu can be installed either directly onto the local memory or onto a removable disk, such as a USB stick or external hard-drive.

Some users have reported problems with installing it onto a removable disk,

so in this guide we will focus on repartitioning

the local hard-drive and using ChrUbuntu to install a new Linux environment directly onto your Chromebook.

If you want to try installing ChrUbuntu on an external disk, head to the developer’s website and follow his instructions.

The method below only works for the newer Haswell-based Chromebook models. It is not advisable to use ChrUbuntu if you have an ARM-based machine, though the developer does offer a solution for ARM-based devices. However, the performance on these models is poor as a result of the slower processor speeds and limited RAM. If you have an ARM-based machine, you will see better results by using the Crouton method as described further down the page.

Be aware that when using ChrUbuntu you cannot switch between the two operating systems without rebooting your machine, and if installed locally,

the removal of the new environment will require a full system recovery.

7. Repeat steps 1 to 4.
8. The installation will start. Every time you see an on-screen prompt, select the default option. Important – towards the end of the installation you will be prompt to choose where GRUB should be install, please ensure you choose /dev/sda, failure to do so will cause the installation to fail.
9. Reboot when prompted to complete the installation.

Once the installation has finished, you will be returned to the screen saying ‘OS Verification is OFF’. Simply press Ctrl+L to boot into Linux, or Ctrl+D to boot into Chrome.

Checklist for Chrome OS version on Chromebook

To install Linux applications on a Chromebook, you must have Chrome OS or Chrome OS version 69 or higher.

If it’s too late for your Chromebook to go and want to make sure you’re using the latest version of Chrome OS, you can follow the steps below to find out:

In the bottom right corner of the screen, click your profile photo or profile.
Click the Settings icon or the settings.
Then click the hamburger icon in the upper left corner.
Click About Chrome OS.
Then click Check for updates.

By completing the last step of your Chromebook, you are sure that your Chrome OS will be up to date and download the necessary files if it needs to be updated.

After downloading, just restart the Chromebook to complete the update of your Chrome OS operating system.

How to activate the Crostini flag on your Chromebook

After updating Chrome OS, you need to change one of the Chrome flags or Chrome flags. Chrome Flag or the Chrome flags are semi-secret settings that give you a license to learn different Chrome features. To do this, you can follow the steps below:

Click the address bar or Chrome address bar.
Enter chrome: // flags and hit the Enter button.
Press Ctrl + F on the keyboard.
In the search bar, make a note of Crostini.
Now you should see the Experimental Crostini option. Click Checklock next to this option, and then click the Enable button next to it.
Then click the Restart Now button in the lower right corner of the application.

Turn on Linux applications on your Chromebook

Open the Settings section.
Then click the hamburger icon in the upper left corner.
Then click on the Linux Beta menu.
Click Turn on.

Click Install.
Chrome will download the required files. After downloading, tap the brush or white circle in the lower left corner to open the application drawer.
Click the Terminal icon.

In the opened window, enter the sudo apt update command. This command lists the necessary Linux components for updating. Enter.

In the command prompt, enter sudo apt upgrade. This command will update all sections listed. Enter.

Upon completion of the update. Type Y and hit Enter.
By following the above instructions, the necessary parts of the Linux operating system are downloaded and you can install them.

Download and install Linux applications on Chromebook

After downloading your favorite installer file. Open the file browser.
Click Downloads.
Copy the .deb file into the Linux files folder.

How to identify the type of  site content management?

There are articles on this subject that have suggested different methods. But there is a simpler way we’ll get to know it. If you are a Google Chrome browser user, there’s an extension called Wappalyzer for this browser that will do the diagnosis.

But you can give any website its own taskbar icon and make it open in a separate window,

effectively turning any website you like into an “app.”

The taskbar is technically called the “shelf” on Chrome OS,

but it works just like the the taskbar does on Windows. You can pin websites to it,

just as you’d pin websites to the Windows taskbar with Chrome on Windows.

Pin a Website to the Taskbar

To do this, first visit the website you want to add to your taskbar on your Chromebook. Click the menu button at the top-right corner of the Chrome window, point to “More tools,” and select “Add to shelf.”

Type a name for the shortcut when your Chromebook requests it. If you want the shortcut to open the website in its own browser window, click the “Open as window” checkbox. If you don’t enable this, the shortcut will just launch the website in a normal browser tab.

Click “Add” when you’re done.

Window Management Tricks

You can now click the shortcut on your Chrome’s shelf — the taskbar — and that website will open in its own window or a browser tab.

A website in its own window is easy to switch between using the Alt+Tab shortcut, the “Switcher” key on your keyboard (  ) or, the Alt + 1-8 keys. You can also just click its icon on the shelf, of course.

That separate window can be snapped to either side of your Chromebook’s screen. To do so, you can either drag and drop the window to the left or right edge of your screen and let it go or press Alt + [ and Alt + ].

You could also click the “Maximize” button at the top-right corner of the app’s window and hold down the mouse button. Move the cursor to the left or right arrow to select the side of the screen you want to snap the window to.

You can use any of these tricks to quickly snap other windows to other sides of your screen, too — including browser windows.

Remove or Tweak the Shortcut

If you no longer want the shortcut,

just right-click the shortcut on your shelf –perform a two-finger tap to do this on a Chromebook’s touchpad — and select “Unpin.”

You can also right-click a shortcut and toggle the “Open as window”

option to control whether these shortcuts open in windows or not.

This is a convenient solution, but Google doesn’t make it quite as easy as it should. For example, you can’t simply drag-and-drop a bookmark, link, or website icon to the shelf to easily create shortcuts. To do this, you’ll have to know the option exists and dig into the “More tools” option in the menu. But, once you do, it’s simple to fill up your Chromebook’s taskbar — sorry, its “shelf” — with shortcuts to all your favorite websites.

Changing DNS servers at the device level is pretty easy, no matter what device you’re using. If you’re planning to change all your devices,

you might want to consider changing the DNS server on your router instead. Still,

if you just need to change those settings on your Chromebook, we’ve got you covered.

First, open the Settings screen on your Chrome OS device. You can do this in a browser by opening the main menu, and then clicking the “Settings” option. You can also click your notification tray,

and then clicking the gear-shaped “Settings” icon.

Click the “Wi-Fi” option under Network at the top of the Settings screen.

Click the name of the Wi-Fi network to which you’re currently connected to change its settings. Note that you can come back later and follow this procedure again to change the DNS server for your other Wi-Fi networks, too.

Click to expand the “Network” section,

locate the Name servers option at the bottom of the expanded Network section,

and then click the dropdown menu to its right. Select “Google name servers” to use Google’s Public DNS servers, or select “Custom name servers” to provide your own addresses.

If you choose Google’s DNS servers, the IP addresses are entered for you. If you choose custom name servers, you’ll need to enter the IP addresses of the DNS servers you want to use here. For example, you could enter 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 to use OpenDNS. Enter the primary and secondary DNS server addresses on their own separate line.

Once you’ve typed the IP addresses, be sure to either press Tab or click outside the text field after typing the second address. If you close the window while typing the second IP address, it saves only the first IP address and not the second one. When you’ve done that, you can close the window. (And yes, that’s weird and this interface should ask you instead of just forgetting what you’re in the middle of typing.)

Your Chromebook will remember these settings when you reconnect to the network in the future, but the settings only apply to the Wi-Fi network you just changed. If you have several different Wi-Fi networks on which you want to use custom DNS, you’ll have to change the DNS server option separately for each one.
