3 ways to free up hard disk space in Windows

As time goes by, the volume of the hard drive increases, but it seems that the hard disk drive, regardless of volume, always fills up.

This is especially true when using an SSD, which has less memory than regular hard drives. Here are some tips for removing extra Windows files.

If you are constantly struggling with a lack of hard drive volume in Windows , use these 2 methods and remove extra files to free up some of your hard drive space.

Method One: Using Disk Cleanup Tool

Disk cleanup utility is one of the internal Windows tools for removing temporary and trivial files. To access this tool, right-click on one of the system drives and select Properties. (Alternatively, look for the Disk cleanup option in the Windows Start menu)

In the Properties window, from the General tab, select Disk cleanup.

Select the type of files you want to delete and press the ok key. This section contains temporary files, files in the trash, and other trivial files.

You can also delete system files that are not listed. Click on Cleanup system files to do this.

After that, you can enter the more options tab and delete the data recovery system using the Cleanup button in the system restore and shadow copies section. This will only leave the last Data restore and delete the rest. So before doing this, make sure the system is OK.

Method Two: Remove software that takes up a lot of volume

Removing apps will free up the hard drive, but some applications take up very little space. Through the Program and features section of the Windows Control Panel, you can click on the Size column to see how many programs installed on the system have filled the hard drive. The easiest way to get there is to search for Uninstall programs in the Start menu.

If you don’t see the column size, click the Option button in the top right corner of the list and select Details view. Note that the information in this section is not always accurate. An application may have a large volume of hard drive, but there is no information in this section about the size of the application.

Also if you are running Windows 10, you can access Apps and Feature by going to PC Setting and logging into the system section.

Part Three: Using a Hard Drive Analyzer Program

You can use a hard drive analyzer to find out what program your hard drive is full of. These programs analyze your hard drive information and show you the files and folders that fill the most hard drive. There are several applications we use in this article for the WinDirStat program.

After scanning the system, WinDisStat displays the folders and files that have the most hard disk space. Just delete personal files and don’t delete important system files. If you see a folder in the Program Files folder that has a large volume of hard drive, you can delete that program. WinDirStat tells you the volume of applications that are not specified in the Program and Features section of the System Control Panel.

Part Four: Clear Temporary Files

Windows Disk Cleanup is a useful program, but it does not erase temporary files from other programs. For example, it does not delete temporary files in Firefox or Google Chrome browser. These programs can fill up to several gigabytes of hard drive (browsers save time by using a hard drive and storing site information on the hard drive. But when the drive is full, you don’t need these files.)

Use the CCleaner program to erase temporary and unused system files. It removes unused files from installed applications as well as Windows applications that Disk Cleanup does not have access to.

Part 5: Delete duplicate files

Use the related programs to find and delete duplicate files on the system. These files are additional and can be deleted. Use the DupeGURU program to do this. This free program can only erase or move 2 files at a time, but shows you the amount of duplicate files.

SECTION 6: Reduce the volume occupied by System Restore

System Restore uses a hard drive to build Restore points. If you want to reduce the amount of time taken by them, log into System Protection Windows and click the Configure button from the System Protection tab. Here you can specify the amount of hard drive allowed for Restore point.

Section Seven: Options for Critical Use

These methods will certainly free up some of the system’s hard drive, but they do break down important parts of the system. We do not recommend using any of these methods, but they will help if you really need the space.

Disable Hibernation: When the system hibernates, it copies the Ram information to the hard drive. This will turn the information on to Ram when the system is turned on and the system will return to its pre-shutdown state. To disable this feature, login to CMD and type this command:

powercfg / hibernate off

Sign in to CMD to re-enable this feature and type the following:

powercfg / hibernate on

Disable System Restore: If you were not enough to reduce the volume described in the previous section, enter the System Restore section using System Protection and the Configure button and select Turn off System Protection.
